Mabuza said he wished to make room for newly elected ANC deputy president Paul Mashatile while speaking at his brother’s funeral in Mpumalanga.
Fikile Mbalula, the minister of transport, has also allegedly submitted his resignation to the speaker of the house as well.
This comes after Enoch Godongwana, the finance minister, was sworn in as an MP on Tuesday.
According to Vincent Magwenya, a spokesperson for President Cyril Ramaphosa, Mabuza would not resign from his post until all outstanding issues had been resolved.
