KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police are concerned over ‘unconfirmed’ media reports over arrests made in the AKA murder investigation.
This after IOL reported earlier this week that police have arrested 3 suspects in connection with the murders of the rapper and his friend.
Multi-award winning artist, Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and his lifelong friend, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, were gunned down outside a restaurant on Florida Road, Durban on 10 February.
According to the report, the suspects were arrested at a shopping centre in Cape Town after police spent weeks monitoring their movement.
The publication claims the men would be transported to Durban, KZN where they would be expected to make an appearance in court.
However, KZN police have expressed their concern over the reports, saying not only are the allegations of arrests misleading the public but it also has the potential to jeopardise the investigation.
KZN police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, addressed the reports that there’s been a breakthrough in the AKA murder investigation.
“Police are appealing for space and time to investigate the matter without undue pressure and unwarranted scrutiny from armchair investigators, analysts and faceless so-called “sources” who claim to be close to the investigations.
Police are duty-bound to keep the victims’ families abreast about developments in the investigations. These irresponsible reports rub salt into the wounds of family members who have put their faith in law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to book and for justice to prevail.”
KZN police are concerned with the unconfirmed reports around AKA’s murder investigation
Colonel Netshiunda said he understands that the case has garnered a lot of media and public attention but called on people to allow police to do their jobs.
He said these unconfirmed reports have the potential to put the lives of the people who have reportedly been arrested at risk.
In addition, the Colonel said the lives of those police officers who were captured in photographs and videos which were circulated on social media are also endangered, due to the sensitivity of the case.
The KZN police’s concerns reiterate the Forbes family’s cries for patience so that law enforcers can have the space to do their job.
