Police have reportedly made a breakthrough in the Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes murder investigation after 3 suspects were arrested in Cape Town on Sunday, 26 March.
This according to an IOL report which claims a source close to the case has confirmed the suspects arrests.
However, when reached for comment by Kaya News, police could not give clarity on the report nor confirm the news.
“KwaZulu-Natal police have not received any update on the AKA case, and regarding confirmation of any arrests made, this cannot be confirmed.”
While the suspects were reportedly arrested in the Western Cape, the case will still be managed by the KwaZulu-Natal police and the suspects are expected back in Durban to be charged.
The publication claims the arrests came after close monitoring of the suspects, and their movements over the course of the past week.
The arrests come due to mounting public pressure on police to find the slain rapper’s killers.
AKA and his friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane were gunned down in Florida Road, Durban on 10 February.
On 08 March, Police Minister Bheki Cele gave an update about the rapper’s murder investigation, saying police are “cracking the case.”
“Maybe things that I cannot say, but one of them I can, we’ve collected a lot of cellphones. So, we are working, downloading, kind of thing to patch and knit things together. That’s the last I received yesterday, about 22h00 on this matter.
The progress is there. We acknowledge it’s not with the speed that the community and nation would have loved to see us react, but mark this space, we are cracking the case.”
