The family of slain rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes has warned his legion of fans against false donations and investments in his name.
In a statement issued by AKA’s parents, Tony and Lynn Forbes, the family acknowledges the “Megacy” for outpouring of love and anger at their son’s brutal murder.
However, the Forbes family stresses that people be responsible in how they celebrate the life of AKA and stop the accusations and assumptions that are causing more harm than good.
“We are at a loss for words to describe our gratitude for the outpouring of love that we’ve received from the Megacy. We’ve seen people deeply hurt and angered by Kiernan’s murder and wanting justice. As a family, we empathise with the grief experienced and we understand your pain.
We are aware of the growing public discontent related to the progress which has been made in the investigation. However, as a family, we are deeply concerned that irresponsible actions, accusations and assumptions may cause more harm than good.”
The Forbes family’s statement comes after IOL reported that three suspects in AKA’s murder investigation were arrested on Monday in Cape Town.
While the police haven’t confirmed the arrests, the publication reports that a source confirmed the arrests and claimed two more suspects were arrested shortly after the initial three were apprehended.
According to the report, police made the arrests after a week of monitoring the suspects and other evidential links.
The Forbes family further warned the Megacy against making donations and investments to people claiming they are members of the Forbes family.
“Lastly, we would like to bring to your attention that there are false requests for donations and investments from people posing as members of the Forbes family.
We have not opened any donation accounts or requested any investments. Please continue to be safe and aware.”
