A male learner from a Krugersdorp school has been suspended for assaulting a female learner.
The shocking assault which was captured on camera by another learner caused outrage on social media on Tuesday, 31 January.
In the video, two boys confront the female learner who stands up and engages in a heated argument with the two.
A few seconds later one of the boys shoves the girl in the face, pushing her to the ground. This boy then starts slapping the girl whilst pulling her hair.
Other learners intervened almost immediately and managed to get the male learner off the female.
The Gauteng Department of Education has condemned the attack at Nic Diederich’s High School.
According to the department all three learners are in Grade 10.
“We aware of the incident that occurred at Nic Diederichs High School in Krugersdorp on Tuesday, 31 January 2023, where a Grade 10 boy learner allegedly assaulted a Grade 10 girl learner.
“This incident was captured in a video that has since gone viral, and we vehemently condemn the behaviour that was displayed.”

On Wednesday, 01 February the male learner who had assaulted his peer was served a suspension by the school.
A disciplinary hearing will be held by the school’s Disciplinary Committee on 12 February.
