King Misuzulu kaZwelithini is allegedly readying to take on a new wife.
The new bride-to-be has been identified as Princess Sihle Mdluli from the Mdluli Royal Family in Mpumalanga.
According to reports, Mdluli, who is in her early twenties, has already moved into one of the king’s palaces.
She has also been introduced to the Zulu royal family.
IOL says the king’s representative, Prince Gumbela Zulu, confirmed that Mdluli was present during the final ritual of the Umkhosi Wokweshwama ceremony which was held at Emashobeni last week.
“Yes she is currently in the royal kraal and we are waiting for the king to give us direction as to whether she would become the mother of the nation.
“You must remember that as much as the king can marry as many wives as he can, one of them must be the mother of the nation who will give birth to the heir, like it happened to himself and her lobola must be paid by the Zulu nation.
“Once the king and royal family have satisfied themselves that she is fit for the purpose, he will then ask me or his traditional prime minister to ask for contributions from his subjects to pay the lobola,” said Zulu.
Misuzulu was scheduled to marry his third wife-to-be Nomzamo Myeni on Sunday, 26 January 2025.
However, the ceremony was postponed amid reports that the king had cancelled the wedding and instructed for Myeni’s security detail to be withdrawn with immediate effect.
Misuzulu’s first wife, queen Ntokozo kaMayisela Zulu, tried to stop her husband from marrying Myeni by filing an urgent interdict at the Pietermaritzburg High Court .
Mayisela argued that it is unlawful for the king to marry another woman while he is in a civil union with her.
The application was dismissed on Monday, 20 January 2025.
Misuzulu filed for a divorce from Mayisela at the Pietermaritzburg High Court in January 2025.
In the court papers, the king cited the breakdown of their marriage as the reason and offered maintenance of R20 000 a month for a year after the divorce is finalised.
This is allegedly the first time in history that a Zulu king has divorced a wife.
King Misuzulu is also married to his second wife Queen Nozizwe Mulela kaMakhubu who hails from the Kingdom of eSwatini.
