This Wednesday, DJ Zinhle stepped in as the host of The Best T in the City as part of our celebrity takeover series, filling in for Tbose, who is currently on leave.
After her hosting stint, Zinhle sat down with us to chat about motherhood, fashion, expanding her Era By DJ Zinhle brand, and much more.
What’s that one fashion trend you can’t get behind?
The nail art that looks like teeth—it’s just not for me. Also, during winter, I’ve noticed people wearing leggings with a skirt over them. And while Yeezy designs are cool, the torn clothing trend doesn’t quite appeal to me.
Radio can be unpredictable. Has anything ever happened during your show that caught you off guard?
Yes, definitely. It’s when the tech producer signals you to wrap it up. If you’re not used to it, it can really throw you off.
If you could only play three songs for the rest of your life, what would they be?
Definitely a Michael Jackson song—maybe Man in the Mirror. I play that song a lot. I’d also include Thula, one of my own songs, and probably Stimela yaseZola by Mbongeni Ngema.
What do you do to unwind after a long and busy day?
I love walking and sleeping—I’ll take a nap anytime. I also enjoy going on walks with my kids and roller skating. I’m the only aunt who spends quality time with the kids. When I’m with them, I take them to the movies or skating.
You recently launched your 7th Era store. What other plans do you have for your Era brand?
We’re hoping to expand to another location. We’re looking at Highveld Mall in Witbank. The brand has been doing really well, especially over the last three years. We’re also exploring more fun product offerings because, in the past, our style was more conservative.
The last two stores we opened are very colourful. We’re currently working on a big branding exercise to increase visibility and grow the brand further.
