Media personality and music executive Nhlamulo “Nota” Baloyi recently made remarks on a podcast that have prompted a probe by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).
Nota (34) upset some people with his remarks on The Hustlers Corner SA with DJ Sbu where he expressed his distinct opinion on the reasons why black South Africans find it difficult to live with white South Africans.
In the video, Nota said he thinks white South Africans are the weakest white demographic in history since they are in the final generation before going extinct. He further stated that white people “inhuman” and “inferior to black people”.
The SAHRC said in a statement that they had learned of Nota Baloyi’s racially offensive remarks following many complaints.
“The matter is under assessment, and the Commission will determine the best way forward, which may include instituting proceedings in the relevant Equality Court as per section 13(3X(b) of the South African Human Rights Commission Act 40 of 2013 (SAHRC Act), read with section 20 of the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act, 2000.
“The Commission wishes to remind members of the public that the right to freedom of expression is not absolute. Hate speech and the propagation of war and imminent violence are prohibited. Podcasts are not excluded from these limitations. Podcast owners and guests are subject to the Constitution and all applicable laws,” reads the statement from SAHRC.
The Commission has also stated that it will give an update on the matter on Friday, 21 February 2025.
