The Heidelberg father who allegedly poisoned four of his five sons, killing three of them has died in hospital.
On 27 May, three brothers died after drinking an energy drink their father had given them before school.
Two of the brothers died at school, whilst the third died en-route to the hospital.
16-year old Lehlogonolo Khoabane, Katleho Khoabane, 13, and Tebogo Ngcongwane, who was 6-years old, experienced stomach pains after consuming the drink laced with rat poison.
Their father who was suspected to have poisoned the boys, overdosed on pain medication when he found out his sons had died.
He had been in hospital under police guard since the incident but police confirmed that he has since died.
Veli Samuel Ngcongwane, died on Friday after spending two weeks in hospital trying to recover from his apparent suicide attempt. He was facing charges of murder and attempted murder at the time of his passing.
It is believed the 39-year father also stabbed himself before overdosing on the medication.
He was found unconscious at his home on the Friday afternoon when police went to the boys’ home to investigate what transpired.
Forensic experts are still determining the exact cause of the boys’ deaths.
The brothers attended Ratanda Primary and Khanya Lesedi Secondary schools in Ratanda.
