The Muller family has expressed their gratitude to all those who prayed for 5-year old, Marno Muller to make a full recovery.
This after the boy was found hanging from a slide at a Springs daycare on Thursday, 26 May.
Doctors at Garden City Hospital had the boy under careful observation due to some brain damage.
Marno was in the ICU for two weeks and finally opened his eyes on Sunday, 12 June.
His mother Helga Muller shared that the hospital had notified her they had a surprise for her.
“I called the hospital at 09:00 and they said I have to come. They have a surprise for me. I didn’t know what they were going to tell me but my heart burst when I got there and I saw my baby awake.”
It has been an emotionally draining two weeks for the family from Springs as they were desperately trying to raise money for their son’s mounting medical bills.
The distraught family do not have a medical aid only a hospital plan and the cost of keeping Marno on life supporting machines for the past two weeks were estimated at R350 000.
While he is up, doctors say it’s still too soon to tell how severe the damage to his brain is.
There is no indication how long the child was left without oxygen while he hung from the slide.
According to the daycare teacher, the strings from his hoodie caught on the slide on the way down. She told the Muller family that she could still see the boy’s feet move and so didn’t think anything of it.
Marno was found unresponsive and blue in the face when he was rushed to the hospital.
