A fatal crash on the N1 highway before William Nicol Drive, claimed the life of one woman this morning.
Two women who were travelling in a Renault Duster, rear-ended a truck, killing one of the occupants of the vehicle.
The scene was closed for a few hours while ER24 paramedic services attended to the women.
First responders on the scene found the truck and car in the middle of the highway. After an assessment by medics, one of the woman succumbed to her injuries on the scene.
The other female passenger, who was in a critical condition was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Emergency Services personnel had to make use of specialised equipment to free the injured passenger.
“Once released, the woman was treated and provided with advanced life support interventions before she was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital,” said ER24.
The fatal crash took place during peak hours and police were on sight to conduct necessary questioning.
Fortunately, the truck driver escaped without injuries.
