Eskom has announced that Stage 3 loadshedding will be in effect from 14:00 today until 05:00 on Monday, 10 March 2025.
This decision follows the loss of 2,700MW of generating capacity over the past 14 hours, further straining an already fragile power system.
The recent setbacks include the shutdown of Koeberg Unit 2, which was taken offline shortly after being restored on Wednesday, as well as two Kusile units whose coal operations were disrupted due to adverse weather conditions in the area.
The power utility is also grappling with higher levels of planned maintenance outages, which are part of ongoing efforts to prepare for winter and meet regulatory and environmental licensing requirements.
To replenish these reserves and prepare for the upcoming business week, Eskom has deemed it necessary to implement Stage 3 loadshedding over the weekend.
The utility anticipates restoring 6,200MW of capacity by Monday evening.
Eskom has urged the public to use electricity sparingly during this period and to stay updated on any changes to the loadshedding schedule.
