Eskom has announced that Stage 5 would go into effect at 10 am today (Saturday, 17 September).
Within the span of seven days, 45 units tripped. Eskom and South Africans continue to receive terrible news as limitations on the available generators will cause the current levels to be moved to Stage 5.
“Due to the breakdown of five generating units overnight, Stage 5 loadshedding will regretfully be implemented until 05:00 Monday,” Eskom announced.

Eskom also said that if any further breakdowns occurred, higher stages would be implemented.
“Eskom apologises for the continued and unfortunate loadsheddding, which is implemented as a last resort in view of the shortage of generation capacity and the need to attend to breakdowns and carry out planned maintenance to return units to service,” it concluded.
