The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is reportedly moving ahead with gender-based violence (GBV) charges against Vusi Thembekwayo.
This comes after Thembekwayo’s estranged wife, Palesa Makhetha filed for divorce citing their marriage had been marred because the motivational speaker had physically assaulted her.
Thembekwayo who denied the assault allegations, despite being arrested for the incident, had tried to find an amicable solution by seeking meditation.
According to a Sunday World report, the NPA rejected Thembekwayo’s request for mediation and will be moving ahead with GBV charges against him.
Thembekwayo is accused of dragging Palesa out of bed, slapping her and demanding she leaves their home.
In addition to the abuse allegations, Palesa has accused Thembekwayo of cheating on her with a woman he travelled with frequently.
Thembekwayo and Palesa were married for 13-years and have 3 children together.
According to the publication the businessman will no have to honour his 07 November court date, when he will appear at the Randburg Magistrates court to face GBV charges.
“The NPA wants to send a strong message to society that it takes allegations of gender-based violence (GVB) seriously. This is in line with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s declaration of GBV as a national pandemic in the country.”
As quoted from the Sunday World report
