The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is pleased with the ongoing National Shutdown which is proceeding successfully, peacefully and with what the party calls utmost discipline.
Protests began at midnight on Monday, 20 March with activists coming out in their numbers to register their dissatisfaction against Cyril Ramaphosa’s government.
In a statement, the EFF commended the resilience of its supporters and applauded the complete shutdown of the country.
“As things stand, it is not a normal day in South Africa. Taxi ranks, malls and intersections, which would ordinarily be busy in the cities and townships are empty.
Many shops, business, petrol stations, car dealerships and courts are not operational as a result of the National Shutdown.
Buses and taxis are driving around the townships and cities empty, because our people have heeded the call of the EFF to not allow the country to be business as usual, and call for the resignation of Cyril Ramaphosa.”

The EFF says the success of the National Shutdown so far, proves that our people are sick and tired of loadshedding, corruption, unemployment, crime, gender-based violence, and a lack of service delivery.
According to the EFF, one of the successes of the National Shutdown, even before it began, was the drastically decreased stages of loadshedding.
“It is because of the National Shutdown that South Africa has moved from Stage 4 to Stage 1 over the past 4-days, and was even suspended yesterday.
The economy has come to a standstill because they are too tired of Ramaphosa’s lies. He and the ANC said it was business as usual, yet businesses are closed, meaning workers and the people of South Africa refused to listen to the lies.”
The EFF says the shutdown will continue until midnight on Tuesday, 21 March, which is Human Rights Day.
