Putco has been forced to temporarily suspend some of its bus operations due to intimidation, hijacking attempts and attacks on Monday, 20 March.
This after the bus operator shared on Friday that Putco would not be operating on Monday and would resume services on Tuesday 21 March.
However, on Monday, Putco issued a statement, saying a few incidents were reported across various parts of Gauteng, detailing damage to some of its buses.
“The following incidents were reported by our operations teams:
Soweto – Buses were stoned and damaged in the Braamfischer area. Passengers were forced to flee and the bus was abandoned.
Eldorado Park – Staff buses couldn’t access the Vaal areas for picking up drivers as a result buses from Nancefield depot couldn’t operate.
Soshanguve – A bus was hijacked, the female driver was pushed out of the bus and it was used to block a road in Dennilton but police quickly recovered it and the bus was taken back to the local depot.”
A number of routes were also blockaded and marked unsafe in Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
All the operations teams are on high alert and monitoring developments.
