Steenhuisen recently shared the approach the Democratic Alliance will be taking post-election and shared that as the second largest party, they will approach the coalition talks with “cool heads and an open mind.”
Speaking in a press briefing moment before the announcement of the official results he assured the people of South Africa that the “DA will act in the interests of the people throughout this unprecedented moment in our country’s history.”

The DA is here for you, and we take the future of you and your family seriously. like millions of other South Africans, I do not want them to grow up in a country run by a party like MK, that wants to abolish the Constitution which so many fought and died for, that wants to subvert the judiciary, and that plans to expropriate all private property and nationalise the Reserve Bank.”

The DA and Steenhuisen find themselves in an unprecedented situation despite their low performance, which was only improved by 1% from the previous vote in 2019. With 21.8% of the vote, the DA is the second-largest political force, but it is one of three parties with the ability to support it in forming a new majority and possibly influencing the course of the country.
