While City Power says power was restored by midnight, several reservoirs and systems have been affected, resulting in no water supply.
Johannesburg Water’s Commando system which includes Crosby, Brixton and Hursthill reservoirs have been affected.
Additionally, Randburg and Roodepoort systems have also been impacted and there isn’t an estimated time for recovery of these areas.
Except for Nancefield and Eldorado substations, supply is restored to all the substations affected by the outage at the Orlando Switching Station.
In March two lightning strikes at the Eikenhof pump station left several parts of Johannesburg without water for days.
This was followed by extensive repairs at the Eikenhof pump station which resulted in towers and reservoirs being unable to build capacity, although Rand Water was pumping at 100%.
Joburg Water issued an update at 14h00 on Thursday, informing residents of further complications at the Vereeniging Treatment Plant which supplies the Eikenhof pump station.
This will further delay the overall recovery of affected reservoirs ad towers.
