Veteran journalist, and Carte Blanche presenter, Derek Watts has passed, sadly losing his battle to cancer.
News of the 74-year-old’s passing was confirmed by Carte Blanche on Tuesday, 22 August, just two months after the investigative journalist took time away from the show to focus on his health.
“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the passing of Carte Blanche anchor and icon, Derek Watss.
He passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, surrounded by loved ones.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife and children, in this time of loss.
He will forever hold a special place in the hearts and minds of his Carte Blanche family.”

In June, Watts was forced to step back from his role at Carte Blanche, after his cancer had spread to his lungs.
Watts, who continued to work despite his diagnosis, with the support of his family and specialists, is now remembered for the professionalism he carried out in his career.
He had been with Carte Blanche for 35 years, since its inception in 1988, becoming one of the most respected and recognized investigative journalists in the country.
