Luis Rubiales, the head of Spain’s Football Federation, has issued an apology for his actions towards Jennifer Hermoso, a footballer from the Spanish national team.
Rubiales faced backlash for kissing Hermoso following Spain’s FIFA Women’s World Cup victory over England. The incident, captured on camera, drew condemnation from fellow players and the media.
Rubiales acknowledged his mistake, stating, “I was completely wrong, I have to admit it. It was without bad intention at a time with a lot of excitement.”
He further explained, “In the moment, we saw it as natural, but outside, a commotion has formed. I have to apologize, learn from this, and understand that when you are president, you have to be more careful.”
Speaking about the incident, the player Jennifer Hermoso said she “didn’t like it at all.”
The footage depicted Rubiales embracing Hermoso as she received her medal on the trophy podium.
