Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles III has been diagnosed wih cancer.
The King’s diagnosis comes after his brief hospitalization in January for a benign prostate enlargement, during which time a separate issue of concern was noted.
In a statement, the Palace said the King chose to make his diagnosis public to prevent speculation and hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.
“During the King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted.
Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.
His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.
Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”

News of the King’s diagnosis comes a few days after his wife, Queen Camilla opened a new cancer support centre at the Royal Free Hospital on World Cancer Day.
Buckingham Palace says King Charles III remains positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to public duty as soon as possible.
At the age of 73, King Charles ascended to the throne after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who passed at the age of 96-years on 08 September 2022.
The King was formally coronated on 06 May 2023.
