The new British Monarch, King Charles III is expected to address a mourning United Kingdom on Friday, 09 September.
Charles who has spent his entire life preparing for this moment, will officially be referred to as King Charles III, after his mother, Queen Elizabeth’s death on Thursday, 08 September.
Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully at the age of 96, in Balmoral Estate, Scotland, bringing to an end the longest reign as monarch.
The Queen ruled for 70-years, and at 73 King Charles III will now assume the throne as the rightful heir.
While tributes for the late Queen continue to pour in from across the world, King Charles III will prepare his inaugural address for Friday evening.
The new monarch and his Queen Consort, Camilla Parker-Bowles are expected to return to London where details of the Queen’s funeral will be revealed.
King Charles III has already instructed a royal mourning period of 7-days after Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
While a date for the funeral has yet to be set, royal protocol dictates that the funeral will be held 11-days after her death, on what will most likely be declared a bank holiday.
Buckingham Palace said a royal gun salute of 96 rounds will be fired in London at 1 pm (5.30 pm IST) on Friday.
One round will be fired for each year of the Queen’s life, said the palace.
