British children’s cartoon show Peppa Pig has now introduced it’s first same-sex couple, two lesbian parents.
In it’s 18 years history, the episode titled “Families” sees a character, Penny the Polar bear telling Peppa the Pig about her two moms.
“I live with my mummy and my other mummy. One mummy is a doctor and one mummy cooks spaghetti”, Penny tells Peppa.
LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning and more) rights charity director, Robbie de Santos has expressed that the same-sex family’s appearance in Peppatown was “fantastic”.
He continued: “Many of those who watch the show will have two mums or two dads themselves, and it will mean a lot to parents and children that their experiences are being represented on such an iconic children’s programme,” he told the BBC.
This new development marks a new dawn for LGBTQIA+ representation in children’s cartoons.
