On Sunday, 09 October 2022 police arrested Mkhwanazi after the bodies of six people were discovered in a panel beating shop in Johannesburg.
The bodies were believed to be that of female sex workers, and were said to be in a terrible state of decomposition.
Mkhwanazi was 20-years old at the time of his arrest was living in the building which housed his panel beating shop.
The building was rented by Mkhwanazi’s father, who is set to testify in the trial this week.
First state witness Micheal Kingsley Damien, the caretaker of the building located in the Johannesburg CBD, said he discovered the body of the first victim when he went to investigate a foul smell.
Five other bodies were discovered after police questioned Mkhwanazi who led police to the places he had disposed them.
Police were unable to identify the victims and a forensic report was effected to determine the identities of the victims.
Through his lawyer, Mkhwanazi admitted to killing the 6 sex workers allegedly because they demanded more money.
