Lady Zamar has entered the amapiano streets with her new album Rainbow, which she says is her rebirth after a musical hiatus.
Yamikani Janet Banda, known professionally under her alias Lady Zamar has been absent from the music industry since her album Monarch was released in 2019.
This was due to the singer and songwriter being on the receiving end of intense social media backlash over her accusing her ex-boyfriend, Sjava of rape.
In 2019, after she split from Sjava, Lady Zamar accused him of rape, an allegation he categorically denied.
A year later, the singer opened a case of rape against Sjava who filed an application at the high court to get the charges against him scrapped.
The case was dropped by the NPA in 2020 because there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the charges, and since then, the 28-year-old artist has been labelled a liar.
Since then, Lady Zamar has been subjected to cyberbullying, and shares that her new album is her reclaiming her identity.
In an interview with TshisaLIVE, the singer said she had been working on Rainbow from 2020, whilst she was dealing with the public scrutiny, and her album is about her finding her “rainbow at the end of the storm”.
Having undergone several voice operations, the 37-year old had to train her vocals because her voice sounds different now.
Rainbow is Lady Zamar reclaiming her identity.
The first single from Lady Zamar’s new album is called Deeper, and the album is the Collide hitmaker’s entrance into the Soul-Piano genre.
