Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner has reportedly passed away at the age of 54 on 20 July 2025.
Authorities in Costa Rica confirmed that Warner died in an accidental drowning incident after being caught in a strong ocean current at Playa Cocles, located in the Limón Province. He was on a family holiday at the time of the tragedy.
Warner rose to fame through his iconic role as Theodore “Theo” Huxtable, the only son in the groundbreaking NBC sitcom The Cosby Show, which aired from 1984 to 1992.
His portrayal of Theo earned him an Emmy nomination and helped shape the cultural significance of a show that presented a positive and aspirational image of an affluent African American family.
Following The Cosby Show, Warner continued to build a dynamic acting career. He starred in sitcoms such as Malcolm & Eddie and Reed Between the Lines, and also took on more dramatic roles in series like The Resident and Suits.
His talents extended well beyond acting. Warner was a Grammy Award-winning musician, recognised for Best Traditional R&B Performance, and was also a nominated spoken word poet. His creative versatility earned him widespread respect across the entertainment industry.
He also ventured into directing, working behind the scenes on various television episodes. In recent years, he remained active with his podcast, Not All Hood, where he explored themes and experiences within the Black community.
This is a developing story.
