Four men have been apprehended in connection with the murder of well-known DJ Oupa John Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody, who was tragically shot and killed in November 2022.
The arrests, all made in Gauteng on Monday afternoon, have been hailed as a significant breakthrough by General Fannie Masemola, the National Commissioner of the South Africa Police Service (SAPS). The SAPS Political Killings Task Team, working in close collaboration with Gauteng Organised Crime Detectives, led the operation.
Initial investigations were conducted by Gauteng organised crime detectives, who later enlisted the expertise of the SAPS Political Killings Task Team to advance the complex case.
Police have stated that three of the suspects are believed to be the hitmen involved in the killing, while the fourth individual is suspected of having orchestrated the assassination. Authorities also confirmed that the weapon allegedly used in the crime has been recovered and has subsequently been linked to other murder investigations.
The four suspects, aged between 45 and 60, are currently in police custody. They are expected to appear in court shortly, facing charges that include murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

General Masemola expressed his satisfaction with the progress, remarking that this development would hopefully bring some closure to the families affected by the tragedy.
“Well done to the teams that have been piecing together evidence since November 2022,” he stated. “This is a culmination of hard work and dedication to justice. This is one of those complex cases that our teams needed to take their time in ensuring a thorough investigation so that we could ultimately bring a strong case before court.”
