The South African Revenue Services (SARS) says over 3 million taxpayers will not need to submit a tax return.
As the 2022 Tax Season starts on Friday, 1 July, SARS has made changes to the tax returns process.
This means that individual, non-provisional taxpayers have been auto-assessed by the revenue service and will not need to file a tax return.
If the individual is satisfied with the outcome of the auto-assessment, they will just have to settle the amount SARS has stipulated they owe.
Taxpayers can however, opt to decline this assessment and submit their returns manually.
The decision was made by SARS to simplify the process for tax filing, making it easier for taxpayers to comply.
SARS will use third party data received from employers, pension fund administrators and medical aid schemes to complete the auto-assessment.
The tax declaration is then completed on behalf of the taxpayer and an auto-assessment will be sent out to the individual.
Individuals who qualify for the auto-assessment are those who have deductions like retirement annuity, medical aid contributions and a monthly salary.
