DJ Black Coffee and jazz musician Nduduzo Makhathini have been announced as part of the 2025 Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) lineup.
According to the CTIJF, the international award-winning artists will be collaborating for an exclusive live performance which will feature a full orchestra, complete with horns and percussion.
Dubbed the “first of its kind”, the performance will also feature a special guest to bring their iconic pieces to life.
“The coming show at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival will be the inaugural concert where the duet puts together a set that will propel audiences through various orepertoires from both incredible talents, ranging from known classics to newly created bodies of work,” reads a statement from the CTIJF.
Meanwhile, Nduduzo shared his excitement on social media and said, “You already know, we will be breaking all music genre boundaries and dealing with the core purpose of sound @officialcapetownjazzfest w/ my Big Bro @RealBlackCoffee and we are both excited to share remarkable memories with you all.”
Black Coffee and Nduduzo previously collaborated in 2018 on the track ‘Muye’ which was featured on Black Coffee’s album titled Music is King.
The pair both studied Jazz at Technikon Natal in Durban.
Black Coffee, real name Nathi Maphumulo, has gone on to be one of the world’s most successful DJs having won a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album for his album Subconsciously.
Ndunduzo Makhathini is a recipient of the 2015 Standard Bank Young Artist Award in Jazz and also won a South African Music Awards (SAMA) for Best Jazz Album in 2018 for his album Ikhambi.
He obtained a PhD in music from the University of Stellenbosch in 2023.
The 22nd Cape Town International Jazz Festival will take place on Friday, 25 April and Saturday, 26 April 2025 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Cape Town.
