Now that the holiday season is behind us, it is time to face a few realities such as buying school uniforms, stationery, and load-shedding. I am usually very optimistic about things but as South Africans, we are all currently feeling the economic pinch.
But the most important after your child’s school matters is to ensure that your car is in good shape after the festive season especially if you zigzagged the pothole-infested country or beyond.
After long-distance driving going through different road conditions, the car always needs some attention. This ideally should be done before you return to work/school, lest you find yourself stranded on the side of the road making the kids late on their first day.
Just like pre-trip preparation on your car, the same applies after the trip(s), this is more like a debrief on the car.
I had a chat with my go-to car technician, Thabo Mmola and he explains that not checking your vehicle after the holidays will be detrimental as it might present issues when you least expect it. Doing this immediately after the holidays gives you the time and grace in case some damages need to be repaired. It also helps to stop small problems from escalating further.
So what do you need to take the car in for?
First things first:
- Oil change
- Wheel alignment (given the state of SA roads)
- General tyre check including pressure
- Brakes
- General fluid check
- Windscreen check
These easy steps could save you the potential future stress and give you peace of mind motoring.
In my view, you do not need a dealership to perform these few steps.
If you have your own Thabo, entrust him with making these minor checks for you.
