Did Gayton McKenzie just call Mpho Phalatse crazy?
Reaching out to fellow Patriotic Alliance member, Kenny Kunene, McKenzie requested that his phone be taken away and for him to be institutionalised if he’s ever ousted as mayor.
The mayor of the Central Karoo district and President of the Patriotic Alliance felt the need to point out that Phalatse’s behaviour since being ousted from her mayoral position is embarrassing.
“Dear Kenny Kunene, if for any reason I am removed as mayor of Central Karoo and I display an ounce of not wanting to let go of my mayoral post (ketting koors), please take my phone and take me straight to be institutionalised.
Please don’t let me embarrass myself in this fashion.”
Mpho Phalatse, the former mayor of the City of Joburg has become a laughing stock in the world of local politics with her latest attempts to be reinstated.
Not only has Phalatse shared a series of Twitter rants but she has held a press conference accusing several coalition parties of corruption.

Phalatse was voted out and replaced by the ANC’s Dada Morero after a motion of no confidence was filed against Phalatse on 30 September.
Since then, Phalatse has filed a court application to overturn Morero’s election as mayor, saying the manner in which she was removed from office was illegal and unconstitutional.
Phalatse’s social media accounts still has her title as Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg and it seems she’s having a hard time letting go of not just the title but the position of power too.
The former mayor hasn’t responded to Gayton McKenzie’s remarks about her mental state, and has instead spent the day visiting the community of Eldorado Park, calling for #HandsOfJoburg.
