Mpho Phalatse, a former mayor of Johannesburg, is battling to get her dismissal from office overturned.
Phalatse filed a court application on Monday at the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg asking for the declaration of the council meeting that resulted in her resignation as illegal and unconstitutional.

In court documents, Phalatse claims that Colleen Makhubele, the council speaker, broke the law by convening an emergency council meeting without providing council members enough notice out of political motivation.
