#YoungTrailblazers: Robot Boii and DJ Lindash on cementing their paths to longevity

By Wanique Block

More than just a sound, South Africa’s music scene has embedded itself as a cultural movement that has transcended various experiences, spaces, communities, provinces and countries.

This movement has birthed and catapulted the careers of many South African artists like Black Coffee, Blxckie, Uncle Waffles, Dbn Gogo and Nasty C just to name a few.

Like many of these artists we too have witnessed the meteoric rise of two best friends Robot Boii and DJ Lindash.

Meeting in 2017, Robot Boii and DJ Lindash met whilst they were both mentored by South African musician, DJ Sbu.

This introduction would become the start of a beautiful friendship, that would then merge into a stellar professional relationship when DJ Lindash became Robot Boii’s DJ.

Affectionately describing DJ Lindash as his “brother”, it is clear that Robot Boii and DJ Lindash’s relationship goes beyond than just being friends, they have cultivated a brotherhood centered around love, creativity and music.

“Yo! Lindash is my brother!”, Robot Boii shares.

Robot Boii continues, “We just clicked man, and when I started growing in the music side of my brand, I realized that I needed a DJ, and there’s only one DJ for me and that’s DJ Lindash”.

Although very versatile and individualistic to their core, the two best friends exude a stage presence like no other, not only does this holistically sum up their artistic visions but their ability to permeate through the boundaries of music and work together effortlessly.

Creatively putting their minds together, Robot Boii and DJ Lindash aim to awaken audiences by committing to energetic performances that are enjoyable and memorable.

“The best thing about what we do is putting smiles on people’s faces”, DJ Lindash tells Kaya 959.

Despite Youth Month ending, we at Kaya 959 are dedicated to highlighting and amplifying the voices of young South African creatives. It is for this reason that we at Kaya 959 spoke to Robot Boii and DJ Lindash.

Upon meeting Robot Boii and DJ Lindash I couldn’t help but notice the difference in personalities. Robot Boii is the fire, very passionate and confident with the way he carries himself, not to mention very hilarious. DJ Lindash on their other hand is the ice, confident, but in the same breath very cool, calm and collected, until he gets comfortable with your presence, which didn’t take too long.

Inspired by the gifts of life, both Robot Boii and DJ Lindash tell me that they draw inspiration from everywhere and everybody.

“We draw inspiration from everywhere and everybody… We take and we learn from the knowledge and experiences of other creatives and artist”, Robot Boii shares.

“Whether that be from our mentors or other creatives in the industry”, DJ Lindash reiterates.

When asked about what advice they would give up and coming youth, Robot Boii and Lindash both place emphasis on trusting God and believing in oneself.

“Trust God, and don’t sleep on yourself! No one is going to do it for you, some people may not even believe in you. So, remember that it starts with you! Push and be consistent. Don’t chase hype and trends. Hype dies, but consistency is maintained and sustainable!”, Robot Boii expresses.

“Believe in yourself and focus on your craft and just keep grinding! I know it sounds cliché, but it works”, DJ Lindash shares.

In their quest to cementing their paths to longevity, Robot Boii and DJ Lindash are forces to be reckoned with.
