Burna Boy has said 90% of Afrobeats artists have no ‘substance’ in their music.
Afrobeats, according to Grammy Award-winning musician Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, has made a controversial statement that has left many of his countrymen in awe.
Burna said 90% of Afrobeats artists have no ‘substance’ in their music.
He revealed his views during a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music.

The artist asserts that 90% of Afrobeats songs are devoid of real-life experiences and just depict a great time, which is not what life is all about.
He added that Afrobeats music is really about nothing. The part of the interview has sparked a massive debate on social media, which has resulted in mixed reactions.
“Not even experience, because half of them, like 90% of them, have no real-life experience that they can understand.
“That’s why you hear most Nigerian music, African Music, or Afrobeats, as you people call it, is mostly about nothing, absolutely nothing. There is no substance to it, like nobody is talking about anything, it’s just a great time. But at the end of the day, life isn’t an amazing time.” said Burna Boy,
