It seems like the tide is changing for cash-strapped singer Zahara, who says all the R50 notes from fans have saved her house.
The Loliwe hitmaker was about to lose her home in an auction after she failed to make the monthly repayments on her R1.9 million Roodepoort home.
In an interview with the Daily Sun, Zahara says all the donations she received has saved her home, revealing she’s paid for the next 3-months instalments as a result.
Earlier this year, the singer made headlines after she was in arrears on her R17,665 per month repayments, due to financial struggles.
She reached out to her fans as well as the Kaizer Chiefs football club to assist her.
Zahara said she had been struggling since she lost her sister, but she is now on track financially and working again.
“As I had mentioned in our last interview, things have been tough since my sister passed on. So, from the donations that came in, I would also take some and help my sister’s kids, my siblings, mom, and dad. This has helped and now God has been opening doors. I’m now working again.”
The multi-award winning artist thanked her fans for their support and shared that at first no one wanted to help her.
“This tore me apart at first, which is why I spoke about it. I felt like I could have knocked on so many doors but they were closed. But I knew that there would be someone out there who could listen and understand. All the R50 notes, R100, and R1000 I got helped me.”
Zahara has had a bad reputation of heavy drinking and alcohol abuse, and a number of people in the SA music industry have ousted her for wasting her money on alcohol and drugs.
Claims Zahara has denied.
