South African media personality Somizi Mhlongo embraced the Halloween spirit by dressing up as rapper Shebeshxt.
Mhlongo shared a photo of his transformation, expressing his excitement about the costume. “I’ve been looking forward to this day. I was very excited to do my first Halloween look,” he said.
Shebeshxt, a rapper from Lebowakgomo, Limpopo, is known for his energetic performances and unique style. Tragically, he lost his daughter in a car accident earlier this year.
The Origins of Halloween
Halloween, a night filled with spooky costumes, trick-or-treating, and jack-o’-lanterns, has become a global phenomenon. Its roots can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the end of summer and the harvest season. The Celts believed that on this night, the boundary between the living and the dead blurred, leading them to light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off spirits.
While Halloween’s origins are Celtic, its modern-day celebrations are largely influenced by American culture. In the United States, Halloween has evolved into a commercialized event, with a focus on trick-or-treating, costume parties, and spooky decorations. American media has played a significant role in popularizing Halloween worldwide.
