Former Rhythm City actress Itumeleng Bokaba opens up about battling depression and her weight-loss journey.
Bokaba took to social media to share that she has “been through the most these past couple of years. The actress says she used “comfort eating” as a coping mechanism.
“All my pain manifested into comfort eating, and my body was not able to release the toxins.”
Bagging a role on SABC1’s uBettina Wethu helped relieve Bokaba of some of her financial struggles. “I was able to focus on myself. I was able to come out of a toxic situation and stand on my own two feet.”
Her confidence “took many knocks,” but she is still working on it. Losing weight has helped her “look and feel better.”
In 2021, Bokaba took to Instagram to open up about having her car repossessed to raise awareness about mental health.
“I was able to escape the heartache of repossession and a ruined credit score. The reason I’m sharing this with you guys is because I want y’all to know the realities of what the pandemic has done to everyone,” said the actress.
“Too many people suffer depression from losing material possessions because they are embarrassed or shocked that it could happen to them. Life is unpredictable, and you have to be strong and resilient and keep your inner peace. So strength to you in whatever you may be going through,” she said.
