On the state of the finances of the City of Joburg
“Our coffers are not as fancy as they used to be, we have appreciated the fact that the general economy is still depressed and a lot of people don’t have money and have lost their jobs… a lot of businesses have been liquidated, and we are still suffering from high technical losses of electricity and water, which as a result of the aging infrastructure. We are still paying more in terms of the buying of electricity and water.” said Morero.
On unspent millions in grants in the City of Joburg
“It is an unfortunate situation that the previous administration didn’t focus on the spending of grants. As a general weakness of the administration in government we have taken a decision now that we will be spending the grants from the 1st of July. ” said Morero.
On billing problems
“We have accepted that the billing in the city is still a challenge, but one of the things we have identified is that the number of queries we have now are just sitting above 15% and we think now we should resolve those issues. We want to reduce those queries to acceptable levels.” said Morero.
