“I lost much that was dear to me.” – Tol Ass Mo reflects on his journey in the last few years.
Mongezi Tol Ass Mo Ngcobondwane has taken to social media to share his healing journey following a turbulent few years.
Taking to Instagram he released a statement where he reflected on the journey that was sparked by a false rape allegation in May 2020 and how the case had a massive impact on his life.
“In reaching out today, I do so with a profound sense of humility and a deep-seated desire for redemption. My journey over the past several months has been one of intense personal upheaval, beginning at a point where my life was peaking, only to be abruptly disrupted by a false rape allegation in May 2020.”
“In my opinion, this accusation from which I was ultimately cleared, marks the onset of my trauma and mental wellness challenges. It also explains the origin of my regrettable disparaging remark about Black women. The fallout from this period was devastating; I lost much that was dear to me, not least my sense of self, numerous lucrative contracts, and the trust of many around me.”
An apology to black women
Tol Ass Mo has also apologised to black women for the statements he made during his healing.
In July 2023, he joined DJ Fresh in an interview on What A Week, where he said “I am f* traumatised. Traumatised by black women.”, he even later said, “If God grants me a second love, it’s gonna be a Caucasian woman.”
In his statement, he writes that what he said back then does not reflect my beliefs or values.
“It is with great regret that I acknowledge the hurtful and confusing statements made during this period, including my alleged disparagement of Black women. I want to make it unequivocally clear that such comments do not reflect my beliefs or values. The person who made those statements was not the person I recognise as myself, but rather a manifestation of the illness and the disorienting circumstances I was in.”

Tol Ass Mo urges people to be self-aware and confront mental health issues
“I strongly urge for our people to be self-aware, confront mental health issues, and never give up. Let us treat ourselves with kindness and be wary of deceptive behaviours, as we cannot fully understand the impact thereof and the depth of another’s pain. I am earnestly working towards becoming a better version of myself, one that I can be proud of and that contributes positively to the fabric of our society. Therapy, prayer, and the support of my immediate family was what brought me out of my loss of self. I will forever be grateful for the gift of life presented onto me.”
