Mzansi Wethu announces its first-ever original telenovela, Sibongile & The Dlaminis.
The telenovela revolves around Sibongile Mbambo, played by Luyanda Zwane, a naive young woman from a rural background who is pressured to leave behind her family and aspirations to work as a domestic worker in the opulent residence of the wealthy Dlamini family. To her surprise, fate has a surprising Cinderella-like tale awaiting her, one that involves a forbidden romance.
Their relationship transforms Sibongile’s life and impacts those around her, including her employers and their enormous business empire.
Set in the small town of Ixopo in KwaZulu-Natal, Sibongile & The Dlaminis promises to explore timeless themes of love, sacrifice, ambition, and familial bonds. The show, which can be described as hopeful, warm, authentic, and a real-world fairy tale, delivers superb entertainment.
Drawing inspiration from the Zambian tale of Zuba and the Solalas, the telenovela tells a captivating story of overcoming adversity and emerging victorious. The cast includes Siyabonga Shibe, Ayanda Borotho and Zodumo Shange, among other talented actors.
Mbalenhle Mavimbela on lessons learnt as an actress
Actress Mbalenhle Mavimbela, popular for playing Mahlomu in the critically-acclaimed Showmax original, The Wife recently took to social media to share how her role has shaped her into a better performer.
“This role allowed me to embrace vulnerability as an actor even more. It’s not easy to be exposed on national television, shedding tears, portraying intimate scenes, portraying rude or evil characters, showing love, and displaying my talent for the world to see,” she expressed while sharing a compilation of some of her memorable scenes.
