South African actor Don Mlangeni Nawa was laid to rest on Saturday in Johannesburg. His funeral service was held at the Germiston Civic Centre.
The former Isidingo star passed away on Wednesday, 16 April 2025, at the age of 65.
During Don Mlangeni’s wife’s tribute, she revealed that he had been battling prostate cancer.
She shared that although she witnessed her husband’s health deteriorate, she never felt alone, as many people offered their support, from government officials to artists and the general public.
“My husband had prostate cancer. He did his first chemotherapy, but it never worked. He tried a second treatment, but it became so aggressive that they had to cut it short.
“He gained weight over time, but it was false weight. The chemotherapy caused a build-up of water in his body. He was in and out of hospital until eventually, he was released and told to go home and die with his family.”
Fortunately, they discovered a “medical protoco”l from overseas, which extended his life for a while longer.
“I was forced to stop working to care for him. We were struggling financially, and I called on the Premier, who came running and bought the first set of his medication.
“I also reached out to the Deputy Minister of Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities, who purchased the second batch, although my husband passed before he could finish it.”
She also expressed her gratitude to the ANC’s Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula for the support and love he showed to her husband.
