The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced who will be leading the party at the uMngeni Municipality.
The DA won control of its first local municipality in KwaZulu-Natal during the 2021 Local Municipality Elections.
On Monday, 8 November, the DA in KZN announced that Mayor Chris Pappas, 30 and Sandile Mnikathi, 26, is the party’s nominee for the position of Deputy Mayor in uMngeni.

Chris Pappas’s speech in the street recently went viral on social media, with many South Africans impressed with how fluent he was in speaking Isizulu.

Pappas, 30, who is very popular in the KZN area, grew up in the farming community of Mooi River and later in Howick, and attended Hilton College.
Mnikathi, 26, holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree in Political Science and Philosophy, an Honours degree in International Relations and is studying towards a PhD in Political Science.

The unprecedented move to have the two young leader at the forefront of running the municipality has had mixed reactions on social media.
Useful for understanding tiers and spheres of government, understanding structure and operation of government, legislative procedure, etc.
Perhaps not as to the point as e.g town planning, civil engineering etc but mayors and deputy mayors are political roles.
