Has self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri travelled to and from the country in recent weeks?
Weekend reports claim that Bushiri was back in South Africa about two months ago, despite fleeing the country last year.
He is alleged to have travelled between SA and his home country, Malawi, at least three times in recent months.
However, Bushiri has slammed the reports as ‘fake news’.
Quoting “insiders”, City Press reported that the Hawks and State Security Agency were aware of Bushiri’s travelling and he allegedly entered SA by land.
Bushiri was tracked to Fourways in Johannesburg and a Hawks-led operation was set up to apprehend him.
However, the operation went bust as officers could not locate him.
Hawks decline to comment
During another apparent visit, officers rocked up at his estate in Gauteng however, guards refused them entrance and a bodyguard allegedly requested an e-hailing service to collect him.
Reports claim that the drivers were stopped and questioned and gave false addresses. They were let in and later drove out with Bushiri – reports claim.
The Hawks declined to comment on the matter.
A Hawks spokesperson said; “It is common cause that he is currently in his country of birth. A process of bringing him back is dealt with by the competent authority in line with extradition arrangements.
“At the right time we will bring the country into confidence once there are notable developments on that process. We will therefore not be drawn to comment on speculation on this matter.”

Bushiri denies claims
Bushiri took to social media to slam reports.
“I know who is behind your stories and I know your entire syndicate. I am also aware of those crooked and corrupt police officers that you work with. I denied giving you money and you promised to make my life a living hell,” he wrote on Facebook.
Bushiri and his wife, Mary, face charges of theft, fraud and money laundering to the tune of around R100 million. He further faces rape charges.
They escaped South Africa while out on R200 000 bail each.
The State has since requested that the couple be brought back to SA to stand trial.
Bushiri continues to maintain his innocence, believing that he is being persecuted.
