Parents wait in suspense after the discovery of seven dead women in Ekurhuleni

SAPS says it cannot rule out the possibility that the deaths of seven women found in Ekurhuleni are linked.
The latest development comes after police declared the discovery of a seventh woman’s body in Clayville, while investigators continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
At the scene where the sixth body was found in Kwa-Thema, three parents were among those waiting for answers as their daughters remain missing.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) says it cannot rule out the possibility that the deaths of women across Ekurhuleni are linked.

This follows the discovery of a seventh woman’s body in Clayville, just a few minutes away from Olifantsfontein, where a fifth body was found on Monday.

The seventh body was found last week Monday, 7 September 2026, but police only declared the discovery today.

This brings the total number of women whose bodies have been found in the City of Ekurhuleni to seven in the space of just a few weeks.

Three parents ask police for answers

Kaya News is at the crime scene where the sixth body was found on Tuesday morning, 15 September 2026, in Kwa-Thema, Springs.

The victim is believed to have been dumped behind Club 69 in Kwa-Thema, with the body already in a state of decomposition.

Kaya News reporters described the mood at the scene as sombre, with about three different parents standing behind the police tape as their daughters are also missing.

Mathe says a team of highly skilled investigators, led by Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection Major-General Mbuso Khumalo, has been brought in to investigate the cases.

Police are appealing to residents, particularly in Kempton Park and surrounding areas, to come forward with any information that could assist detectives.

They have also cautioned the public against sensationalising the killings on social media or making assumptions, saying investigators must be allowed to establish the facts.

“We have been saying that we are looking at a number of possibilities, whether we are dealing with one perpetrator or more than one. Our investigators are still on the ground trying to gather all the necessary evidence,” said Mathe.

Mathe has called on taxi associations, private security companies and members of the public to assist with any information that might be of value to police in solving these cases.

“Through pour crime statistics and the arrests that we have made demonstrate that we are not resting as the SAPS, but it gives us a sense that there’s still more that needs to be done. The convictions we have are proof that we are capable”.

She also called on people to stop playing the blame game, saying this is not the time to point fingers.

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia and senior SAPS leadership are meeting with investigators this afternoon to assess progress and further intensify efforts to identify and arrest those responsible.
