- Missing Kempton Park runner Elizabeth Tsontso Moselakgomo has been positively identified by her family at the Germiston mortuary.
- Her identification comes as police investigate the deaths of five women whose bodies have been discovered in Gauteng.
- Acting Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane says a multidisciplinary team is working around the clock to establish what happened and identify possible links between the cases.
In an unfortunate turn of events, missing Kempton Park runner Elizabeth Tsontso Moselakgomo has been positively identified by her family at the Germiston mortuary on Monday, 14 September 2026.
This was confirmed by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in a short media statement.
Moselakgomo’s body was found on 12 September 2026 in Rhodesfield, at the back of a hotel in the area.
She had been missing since Wednesday, 10 September, after leaving her home for an afternoon run and failing to return.
Her 8-year-old daughter alerted family members after her mother did not come home, prompting the family to raise the alarm over her disappearance.
Her identification follows the discovery of five women’s bodies in Gauteng, as investigations into the deaths continue.
Acting Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has expressed her sincerest condolences to the Moselakgomo family, which is dealing with the loss of their loved one.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Elizabeth during this extremely painful time.
“The loss of a loved one under such circumstances is devastating, and we assure the family that the SAPS will do everything within its powers to establish exactly what happened to Elizabeth and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” said Dimpane.
Dimpane has directed a multidisciplinary team comprising detectives and other specialised policing resources to intensify the investigation into these cases.
She assured that the team is working around the clock to establish the circumstances surrounding each death, analyse available evidence, identify possible linkages where they exist, and pursue all leads that may assist in bringing the investigations to a successful conclusion.
“We will not rest until we have established the truth. Where there is evidence linking individuals to these crimes, we will pursue them relentlessly and ensure that they face the full might of the law.”
Thus far, one suspect has been arrested in connection with the discovery of the first body in July.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
