On Friday, South African music producer and DJ Chymamusique, real name Collen Mmotla, joined My Top 10 at 10 with Tbose for his first interview since his car crash in 2025.
The head-on collision involved two sedans, with one attempting to overtake. Five people lost their lives in the accident, including his friend and fellow DJ, Poizen, who died at the scene. Chymamusique sustained severe injuries and was rushed to ICU.
Reflecting on that day, Chymamusique shared that he was woken by fire.
“I woke up from the accident when there was fire starting. Someone was taking my watch, my Apple Watch, while I was sleeping,” he said.
“I ended up at a government hospital. I overheard someone speaking in the background saying that someone died in the car, and I fell into another coma.”
Upon waking up, he realised that his legs were not functional.
He told Tbose that being the sole breadwinner at home gave him the strength to keep fighting.
Chymamusique has been supporting himself through his savings, along with some help from a friend.
Sharing his next steps, he said he still needs further work done on his knee and teeth.
“While that happens, I’ll be carefully working,” he said.
