Shalate Sekhabi pens an emotional tribute as she exits House of Zwide

House of Zwide viewers and fans were left emotional after actress Shalate Sekhabi announced her departure from the show.
Shalate, known to many as Shoki, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message bidding farewell to the character that has defined much of her acting journey.
My heart is filled with so much gratitude.
Farewell Shoki! 🥹🥹 Thank you so much to everyone who has embraced and loved Shoki over the years.
Shalate joined the beloved e.tv soapie in 2021 during its debut season and has portrayed Shoki for four years.
Fans watched her character grow through love, heartbreak, and marriage — becoming one of the show’s most cherished characters.
In her Instagram post, she credited the role with launching her career.
It’s because of this character that I’ve become a household name and got my start in this industry. Shoki has changed my life beyond anything I could have ever imagined, and the love from viewers — online and in person — has been the most amazing thing to come out of all of this.
The actress described her exit as bittersweet, expressing how much she will miss the character. She also thanked loyal fans for their continued support, especially those who urged her to stay.
To everyone who’s shown me love, and even those who begged me not to leave — thank you. Unfortunately, this is the end of an era.
While fans may be sad to see her go, there’s no doubt that this is just the beginning for Sekhabi.
The talented actress holds a Film and Television degree from Wits University and is the daughter of renowned South African playwright and director Aubrey Sekhabi — meaning she was born into the world of storytelling.
