In 2021, Lasizwe raised R2 million for university students through the “R10 goes a long way” campaign
Popular media personality Lasizwe Dambuza has revealed he has spent four years trying to clear his name following accusations that he misappropriated R2 million raised for students.
Dambuza, known for his philanthropic efforts in assisting students with registration and tuition fees, has consistently maintained his innocence.
The controversy stems from the “R10 Goes a Long Way Initiative” launched in March 2021.
Collaborating with other celebs, the campaign aimed to raise R1 million to cover university registration fees for financially struggling students.
The team kick-started the initiative with personal donations, quickly attracting support from social media users, celebrities, and corporate sponsors, including Pick n Pay (R10,000), African Bank (R10,000), KFC (R50,000), and Standard Bank (R1 million).
The initiative swiftly exceeded its target, raising an impressive R2 million. These funds were then disbursed to students unable to register at universities due to financial constraints.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Dambuza recently reiterated that the accusations are “all false and lies,” expressing the distress caused by ongoing jokes and speculation surrounding the matter.
“4 years ago, I was dragged through the mud over claims that I stole R2 million yama Students, which was False and it’s Lies. Till this day, that accusation still haunts me. Im seeing people joking about it now, but you don’t understand the damage it caused. I’ve spent 4 years trying to clear my name from something I didn’t do,” he said.
