South African working women are a force to be reckoned with – ambitious, highly educated, and fiercely loyal to their employers.
However, a groundbreaking new report released by RecruitMyMom, the leading platform connecting businesses with skilled female professionals, reveals a stark contrast between their aspirations and the realities they face in the workplace.
The 2025 Working Women’s Report, the most comprehensive survey of its kind in the nation, paints a powerful picture of a demographic eager to climb the career ladder.
An overwhelming 86% of respondents expressed a strong desire for professional growth. Yet, despite this drive and their proven commitment, nearly half (almost 50%) are actively seeking new employment.
Kaya Biz with Gugulethu Mfuphi spoke to Phillipa Geard, Founder and CEO of RecruitMyMom, who highlighted the key drivers behind this apparent contradiction.
“Our findings underscore a critical need for companies to better understand and cater to the evolving needs of their female workforce,” she stated.
“The desire for flexibility, coupled with the pursuit of greater financial security and meaningful opportunities for advancement, are significant factors pushing talented women to look elsewhere.”

One of the most striking revelations of the report is the exceptional loyalty demonstrated by South African working women. Almost 65% of those surveyed have remained with their current employer for a substantial period, ranging from three to ten years.
