Amapiano star Scotts Maphuma has issued a public apology after facing widespread criticism for comments made about not taking photos with fans.
The backlash followed his appearance on musician-turned-podcaster L-Tido’s show, where he doubled down on his stance, sparking accusations of arrogance and entitlement.
Maphuma, arguably one of the biggest breakout stars in Amapiano over the past year, has been labelled “big-headed” by some fans for stating that he does not feel obligated to take pictures with supporters.
“No one forced me to be a celebrity. I make music for the people. If I don’t feel like taking a picture, then I don’t feel like it,” Maphuma said during the interview. “I don’t owe it to anyone. No one got me to where I am, and no one can take anything away from me except God,” he said in part.
However, following the wave of public backlash, the musician has now issued a formal apology.
“To my fans and supporters,
I want to sincerely apologise for my recent actions and words which disrespected and disappointed many of you. I lost perspective and take full responsibility,” he said.
He acknowledged the incident as a wake-up call and thanked those who held him accountable.
“I now understand the importance of staying grounded and connected to those who make the journey possible. I’m committed to learning, growing and regaining your trust through my actions.”
This comes shortly after Maphuma was seen with legendary musician Oskido.
